Data Sources

Last updated: 2026-06-03

Every panel on the dashboard reads from one of the sources below. Where a panel is a composite or proxy, the contributing sources are noted inline (hover the COMPOSITE or PROXY badge). When a panel is hand-curated or AI-assisted, that’s labeled too. If a number on the dashboard doesn’t map to one of the rows below, that’s a bug — please tell us.

Markets and Economy

  • FRED (Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis). Macro indicators, Treasury yields, VIX, commodities, OECD CLI, CPI for global regions, Freddie Mac PMMS mortgage rate. Public domain. Refresh: daily for daily series, monthly/weekly for slower releases.
  • Tiingo. Equity, ETF, and crypto prices and history. Commercial-use OK under their terms. Refresh: end-of-day for most tickers; intraday where the panel calls for it.
  • GDELT. Global news monitoring and tone scoring; feeds the “What Changed” ribbon and headline previews. Updates every 15 minutes.
  • RSS feeds. Selected major-outlet headlines. Refresh: on a short interval.

Congress and Capital

  • House Clerk PTR XML. Periodic Transaction Reports for House members. Public-domain bulk feed. Filings are disclosed 30–45 days after the trade (sometimes longer when late). See the disclaimers page for the lag caveat.
  • Senate eFD. Senate financial disclosure portal. Scraped via our own client (no Quiver Quant dependency). Same disclosure-lag caveats as House PTRs.
  • congress-legislators. Party, state, and chamber enrichment from the unitedstates/congress-legislators dataset. Public domain.
  • SEC EDGAR. Form 4 (insider) and 13F (institutional) filings for the Money Movers tab. Public domain. 13F is a quarterly snapshot with up to a 45-day filing delay.

Housing

  • FHFA House Price Index (HPI). Repeat-sales price index at state and CBSA level. Public domain. Refresh: monthly / quarterly per release.
  • Census ACS B19013 and B25077. Median household income and median home value at state and CBSA. Public domain. Refresh: annual.
  • Freddie Mac PMMS via FRED. 30-year fixed mortgage rate (MORTGAGE30US). Citation required; public-domain access via FRED.
  • IRS Statistics of Income (SOI) Migration. County- and state-to-state migration with AGI weighting. Public domain. Refresh: annual. Roughly two tax years of inherent lag.
  • Census TIGERweb and Gazetteer 2024. Place boundary polygons and city centroids for the choropleth and CBSA drill-downs. Public domain.
  • Census Building Permits Survey. State-level housing starts. Public domain.

Housing data we do not use, for commercial-licensing reasons: Zillow Research, Redfin Data Center, S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller, CoreLogic, ATTOM, Parcl, Altos.

AI Race

  • SWE-Bench Verified. Coding benchmark. Independent evaluation.
  • LiveCodeBench. Competitive-programming style coding benchmark.
  • MMLU, GPQA. General-reasoning benchmarks.
  • Aider Polyglot. Multi-language coding benchmark.
  • LMArena, Image Arena. Crowd-preference rankings.
  • Vectara HHEM. Hallucination evaluation.
  • Artificial Analysis. Speed and pricing benchmark.
  • Lab self-reported scores. Used only when independent numbers don’t yet exist, and always tagged with the LAB-REPORTED evidence tier.
  • OpenRouter. Developer token-share signal.
  • Menlo Ventures Enterprise AI report. Enterprise spend mix.
  • Andreessen Horowitz consumer AI rankings. Consumer app adoption signal.
  • JetBrains Developer Ecosystem Survey, Stack Overflow Survey. Developer adoption signals.
  • Lab pricing pages. Per-token list prices, fetched directly.

Refresh cadence

Each panel’s subtitle or info tip shows its “as of” date. In general:

  • Markets: end-of-day for most tickers.
  • Macro: daily, weekly, or monthly per release.
  • Congress and Capital: as filings are published, with the disclosure lag described above.
  • Housing: monthly for FHFA, annual for ACS and IRS SOI.
  • AI Race: weekly for the editorial recap; benchmark scores when the maintainers release a new snapshot.

Export and redistribution

Many panels carry a small ⬇ CSV button in their header. The button is enabled only on panels backed by data we are entitled to redistribute. Each CSV begins with a comment block identifying source, retrieval date, license, and methodology, so downstream analysts can cite cleanly.

What you can export

  • Congress — Activity log, this-week tape, and per-ticker aggregation are all sourced from public-domain U.S. government filings (House Clerk PTRs, Senate eFD) plus the unitedstates/ congress-legislators dataset. Full redistribution OK with attribution.
  • Money Movers — Investor list and quarterly position changes are derived from SEC EDGAR Form 13F-HR. Public-domain government filings; the curated marquee-filer list and the NEW / EXITED / ADDED / TRIMMED classification are our editorial layer.
  • Housing — Affordability, migration, and momentum exports combine FHFA HPI, Census ACS, IRS SOI, Freddie Mac PMMS via FRED, and Census BPS — all public domain. The NAR HAI affordability composite is our editorial methodology.
  • Economy — Macro indicators, conditions cockpit, macro quadrant, and economic calendar all flow through FRED (citation requested). The 6-pillar conditions composite is our editorial layer.
  • Editorial layers across tabs — Composite scores, cross-source joins (e.g. Congress × Lobbying × Contracts in the Influence Nexus), Best Value At rankings, story curations, and Fit Score / Forever Home Match are our derivative work. We license these under a citation-required policy: republish freely with attribution to The Wall.

What we don’t expose for download

  • Tiingo market data— Equity, ETF, and crypto price series power the Markets tab visualizations. Tiingo’s commercial terms permit product use but not bulk redistribution of raw price history. Pull directly from Tiingo if you need a price feed.
  • OpenRouter full catalog — Per-token pricing on AI Race is shown for editorial comparison. Bulk redistribution of the full OpenRouter catalog is gray under their API terms; pull from openrouter.ai if you need a complete export.
  • Artificial Analysis / LMArena / Image Arena raw data — Their leaderboards are shown with attribution; bulk redistribution of their aggregated numbers should come from them, not us.
  • Menlo Ventures / a16z adoption snapshots — Quoted with attribution; redistribute via the original report.

What the CSV header contains

Every export file starts with comment lines (prefixed with #) carrying:

  • Source name(s) and primary URL
  • Retrieval date (when The Wall fetched / built the file)
  • License terms (public domain, citation required, editorial)
  • Methodology pointer for any composite or derived columns
  • Caveats (disclosure lags, share-count basis, etc.)

Most tools (pandas with skiprows, Excel, Google Sheets) skip #-prefixed lines cleanly. Please cite The Wall when republishing any analysis built on these exports.

Errors and corrections

If a number looks wrong, we want to hear about it. Email hello@thewall.dashboard with the tab, the panel, and a screenshot if you can.
